Our
Story
The name 'Lumiere' is inspired by a project that is close to my heart. It proposes an artists' residence with shared studio and gallery spaces at the site of a Grade I listed hotel in Gloucester. It also brings together a community of underprivileged people that are often overlooked by society and promotes physical and mental well-being.
We are Lumiere. We aspire to bring light and life into homes, offices, public spaces and cultural venues with fresh ideas, human-centric and thoughtful design solutions.​
Tracy Shum

Tracy, founder and director of Lumiere Architects Ltd, is a ARB registered architect. She founded the studio in 2024, after having worked for nine years in a number of renowned international architectural practices, including Heatherwick Studio, Adjaye Associates, Zaha Hadid Architects, Haptic Architects and WilkinsonEyre Architects.

Drawing upon her extensive experience as a Lead Architect at market-leading firms, Tracy is well-placed to serve as a project architect and design manager to a broad range of clients. Notably, she worked on diverse projects both in the UK and internationally, ranging from Commercial, Residential, Cultural, Hospitality and Infrastructure projects.

Prior to founding the studio, she was most recently involved in:

Leading design packages for The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in India and a major cultural project in the Middle East

Delivered design packages for Google workspaces in California

Project running for Dyson workplaces refurbishment in the Malmesbury campus to completion

She also had the privilege to work on Singapore Changi Terminal 5 and Noida International airport focusing on creating intimate, human scale yet functional airport experience
She was trained in the University of Bath and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL where she cultivated an interest in innovative materials and the way they transform human perception of space.

​Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Her multi-cultural background enables her to have a sensitive approach to design, bringing diverse needs and perspectives into thoughtful, inclusive, and innovative solutions that resonate with a global audience.​

In her spare time, Tracy enjoys traveling and drawing inspiration from nature and diverse cultures. She is also a passionate landscape painter.

We offer services in design and project management from concept design stage to completion. Our team have extensive experience in planning, developing technical design, liaising with structural engineers, suppliers and contractors to achieve high quality work. We are UK based and work globally.
Architectural Design
From sketching ideas to detailed design development, our bespoke design service help visualise your environment to its full potential and develop a design concept through storytelling. Our expertise in pre-planning and planning ensures the best possible chance for successful approvals. We work closely with structural engineers and a diverse range of specialists to create comprehensive design drawings and documentation, ensuring high-quality outcomes across all disciplines.
Project Management
With extensive expertise in project and design management, we engage closely with you from the early design stages to develop a comprehensive phasing plan and a detailed schedule for tender documents from all consultants. We also coordinate with contractors on-site, ensuring alignment with the agreed work schedule to deliver greater certainty in cost, time, and quality.
Interior Design
We are passionate about creating a unique interior look and feel for your project. Our expertise lies in developing material aesthetics and character that reflect the function, context and end users of the space. We also offer consultations to resolve design dilemmas and provide ongoing support throughout every stage of the process.
